The Porsche-Volkswagen 914 is a mid-engine sports car developed jointly by Porsche and Volkswagen and produced between 1969 and 1976. Designed to replace the Porsche 912 and the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, the 914 combined Porsche’s engineering expertise with Volkswagen’s production resources.
One of its most distinctive features is its mid-engine layout, which provided excellent balance and handling. The car was also known for its targa-style removable roof, offering both sporty performance and open-air driving enjoyment. The 914 was available with different engines, ranging from four-cylinder Volkswagen units to more powerful six-cylinder Porsche engines.
Although its unconventional design was controversial at the time, the Porsche-VW 914 has since gained recognition as an innovative and agile sports car. Today, it is appreciated by enthusiasts for its unique character, driving dynamics, and important place in Porsche’s history.
